Three Beaverton-area juniors landed on a statewide list of the top 6A boys soccer goalkeepers in Oregon.

The Oregonian/OregonLive published the goalkeeper installment of its 2026 high school boys soccer rankings on Thursday, Oct. 22. Beaverton's Mason Walter and Sunset's Matthew Boyd and Owen Vaugh all made the cut, based on submissions from their head coaches.

Walter, a junior, has anchored the net for a Beaverton squad sitting at 9-2-2 overall and ranked No. 5 in the Oct. 20 OSAA coaches poll.

Beaverton coach Jason Carney called him "a fantastic shot stopper" who had conceded only five goals as of early October.

Carney also praised Walter's footwork and communication.

The five-goals figure carries a caveat. OregonLive noted that most statistics in the list reflect early-October numbers, and Beaverton conceded at least two goals in a 2-1 loss to Jesuit on Oct. 14.

Walter's current total is higher.

Walter stepped into the starting role after last year's first-team All-Metro League goalkeeper Mason Schinderle graduated. The Beaverton Valley Times reported in September that Carney considered Walter every bit Schinderle's equal heading into the season.

Beaverton won the 6A state title last year.

At Sunset, Boyd and Vaugh have split time in goal all season. Apollos coach Conrad Buck said both juniors "have been essential to our successes and strong defense." Sunset stands at 5-6-2 overall, according to MaxPreps. No individual statistics for Boyd or Vaugh were available.

The OregonLive list was compiled from coach responses statewide. The publication noted that coaches from several 6A programs, including Southridge, had not responded, meaning additional goalkeepers could be added later.

With the regular season winding down, both programs will lean on their goalkeepers as playoff positioning takes shape. The OSAA 6A playoff bracket had not been published as of Oct. 22.
