Westview senior libero Mady Lebeck earned a spot on The Oregonian/OregonLive's statewide list of the best 6A liberos in Oregon high school volleyball, published Oct. 22.

Lebeck, a four-year varsity starter, has been first-team all-Metro League the past two seasons and was named first-team all-state libero last year. She has signed to play at Boise State.

Westview coach Janelle Brandt called Lebeck one of the team's three captains and praised her defensive consistency in comments to The Oregonian/OregonLive.

"Every game, she has like 30+ digs … she reads very well, and she hustles," Brandt said.

Brandt described Lebeck as the team's "quiet confidence," someone who pulls teammates together and keeps them focused without being the loudest voice on the court. When the Wildcats are out of system, Lebeck also steps in as a setter on second balls, thanks to what Brandt called her "very good hands."

On the defensive end, Brandt said Lebeck doesn't get rattled. She called the senior the team's "glue in the back row" on defense and serve receive, adding that Lebeck's poise on the court calms her teammates down.

"Her teammates respond to her confidence on the court," Brandt said.

The statewide list was compiled from responses by 6A head coaches across Oregon. Reporter JD Humburg of The Oregonian/OregonLive contacted every 6A head coach and built the list from their comments. Statistics cited were current as of early October. Coaches from several programs, including Beaverton and Sunset, had not responded at the time of publication.

The list featured liberos and defensive specialists from programs across the state, including players from Barlow, Lincoln and Adrienne C. Nelson high schools.

Westview sits second in the 6A Metro League standings at 7-2, trailing unbeaten Jesuit at 7-0, according to MaxPreps. The Wildcats are 20-8-2 overall as of Oct. 22.
