The City of Beaverton is helping bring 50 artists' studios to the public as a financial sponsor of the 16th annual Washington County Artists' Open Studios Tour, set for Oct. 17–18.
The free, self-guided tour runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18. Visitors can start at any studio and set their own pace. The City of Hillsboro and Explore Tualatin Valley are also listed as sponsors on the tour's website.
The Washington County Art Alliance (WCAA), which organizes the tour, has posted an online map of all 50 participating studios. Printed map guides are available at the Patricia Reser Center for the Performing Arts, the Walters Cultural Arts Center, Village Gallery, Valley Art, and the Shute Park and Brookwood libraries.
Admission is free at every studio.
The Oregonian included the tour in a Sept. 25 roundup of free fall events across the county, noting that artists demonstrate their techniques and show their work as visitors explore.
Beyond the October tour, the WCAA runs a mentorship program that pairs student artists with experienced participants for at least nine hours of instruction. One of six mentorships offered this year, Watercolor Basics: Color & Temperature, is led by Beaverton-based mentor Linda Noval at her home studio. Other disciplines include urban sketching, plein air painting, gourd art and fine silver jewelry making.
The alliance's Summer Art Showcase, which featured 40 artists and more than 100 artworks at the Brookwood and Shute Park libraries, wrapped up Aug. 30.
