Beaverton City Library will host a free Family Resource Fair on Oct. 10, bringing more than 35 nonprofits together for families with young children.

The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Meeting Rooms A & B at the library's main branch, 12375 SW Fifth St. Kids can pick up free books, try interactive activities and enter a raffle, according to the library's event calendar.

Admission is free.

The library describes the fair as a gathering place for families with children 10 and under to meet nonprofits that serve them, according to its event page.

Who will be there

The list of participating organizations spans health care, housing, education and food assistance. Among them:

  • Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center and CareOregon for health services
  • Oregon Food Bank and Washington County WIC for food assistance
  • Beaverton School District's McKinney-Vento Program and Migrant Education Program for families navigating school enrollment
  • Asian Health and Service Center and IRCO's Greater Middle East Center for immigrant family support
  • Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District and Beaverton Family YMCA for youth recreation
  • Autism Society of Oregon and FACT Oregon for families of children with disabilities
  • Family Peace Center of Washington County and Domestic Violence Resource Center for safety resources
  • Community Action Head Start and NW Regional ESD Early Intervention for early childhood programs

Other groups include the Beaverton Police Department, Beaverton Resource Center, Oregon Department of Human Services, Unitus Community Credit Union, Oregon's Bureau of Labor and Industries Fair Housing division and Project Access NOW.

Hispanic Heritage Month performance the same afternoon

Families who visit the fair can also stay for a free Hispanic Heritage Month program later that day. Danza Azteca Huitzilopochtli performs from 4 to 5 p.m. at the same library location, according to The Oregonian. The group performs traditional Aztec dance with feathered costumes and huehuetl drums.
