Students at Beaverton School District's Capital Center have a new outdoor field, the first dedicated recreation space for the three specialized programs housed in the building.

The district announced the completion as part of the $723 million bond program voters approved in May 2022. Capital Center, at 10740 NE Walker Rd. in Hillsboro, was not originally built as a school, so students had no secure outdoor space.

Crews converted a section of the parking lot into a fenced, artificial turf futsal field with a small track, according to the district's bond project page.

The project was categorized as a summer 2026 effort under "Modernization — Outdoor Learning."

The field serves the Beaverton Academy of Science & Engineering (BASE), the Community Transition Program (CTP) and the Academic & Communications Enhancement (ACE) program. CTP serves students ages 18 to 21 focusing on vocational and life skills after graduating with a non-standard diploma.

No project-specific cost has been disclosed. The bond program covers work district-wide through 2028, including modernization, security and seismic upgrades. The parking lot that lost a few rows of asphalt gained the first outdoor learning space these programs have had.
