Beaverton School District's Clothes for Kids program wants 200 winter coats for students by Friday, Oct. 30. The program is partnering with Beaverton Toyota for a "Spread the Warmth" drive.

The campaign accepts new or gently used winter coats at 17 locations across the district, according to a BSD announcement posted Thursday, Oct. 15.

Anyone in the community can drop off coats at three main sites:

  • Clothes for Kids at 16550 SW Merlo Rd.
  • Beaverton Toyota at 4300 SW Murray Blvd.
  • BSD District Administration Office at 1260 NW Waterhouse Ave.

BSD families can also bring coats to 14 schools: Bethany, Cedar Mill, Fir Grove, Findley, Jacob Wismer, Montclair, Nancy Ryles, Raleigh Park, Rock Creek, Sato, Springville, West TV, Five Oaks and Mountainside.

The Merlo Road donation bins are accessible Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., except holidays, according to the district's Clothes for Kids program page.

Who qualifies and what to donate

Clothes for Kids is a volunteer-run program that provides free clothing to BSD students in grades K-12 from families with limited income, according to the Beaverton Rotary Club, which helps staff the program. Students can visit twice per school year and find items like jeans, T-shirts, sweatshirts and coats.

The program limits families to one winter coat per student per school year because of limited supply, the district's program page states. Elementary-aged coats in sizes 5 through 12 are an ongoing need.

Beyond coats, the program accepts clean, school-appropriate, gently used or new clothing and shoes year-round. New underwear and socks are always needed. The district also accepts financial contributions by mail, with checks payable to Clothes for Kids at 1260 NW Waterhouse Ave., Beaverton, OR 97006.

Beaverton Rotary Club volunteers assist the program several times a year and sponsor a separate Warm Clothes project, according to the club's website.

How to help

Donate a new or gently used winter coat at any of the 17 drop-off locations by Friday, Oct. 30. The Merlo Road site is open weekdays, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. School drop-off hours may vary.
