Seven Oregon horror writers will read from their work, sign books and hand out candy at Beaverton City Library on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The free, all-ages "Meet a Horror Author" gathering runs from 2 to 5 p.m. at the library's main branch. It is the third year the Horror Writers Association's Oregon chapter, known as HWA Oregon, has organized the event.
Authors scheduled to appear include Andrew S. Fuller, H.A. Spector, Iris Harris, Katherine Quevedo, Niyyah Ruscher-Haqq, Richard Leis and Stephanie Feldstein. Attendees can pick up free books or buy copies directly from the writers.
HWA Oregon described the Oct. 17 gathering as a "Halloween Party" in an Instagram post, noting members will be "reading, tabling, and giving away candy and other goodies." The event caps a busy October for the chapter, which listed readings, an open mic, a book club meeting and a haunted attraction visit among its monthly plans.
Among the featured authors, Quevedo grew up just outside Portland. She won the 2025 Elgin Award for her poetry chapbook The Inca Weaver's Tales and published the fantasy novella Thrice Petrified in 2025, according to the Science Fiction & Fantasy Poetry Association. Her writing has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Rhysling Award, and her poems and stories have appeared in Asimov's, Nightmare Magazine, Fireside Magazine and Apparition Lit, among other publications.
The library's event listing categorizes the gathering under adult programming but describes it as open to all ages.
Beaverton City Library is also running a virtual Scary Short Stories Contest aimed at teen writers through Oct. 31.
Upcoming at Beaverton City Library:
- Saturday, Oct. 17, 2–5 p.m. — Meet a Horror Author (free, all ages)
