Washington County plans to spend $25 million on sidewalks, a bike-and-pedestrian crossing signal and other safety upgrades along Alexander Street in Aloha. Residents can see the latest designs and ask questions at an open house Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The drop-in event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at Living Hope Fellowship, 3350 SW 182nd Ave. No formal presentation is planned. County staff will be on hand to discuss the project and potential property impacts, according to a county news release.
Alexander Street sits in unincorporated Aloha, north of Tualatin Valley Highway. The county describes it as a route many pedestrians and cyclists use as a slower alternative to TV Highway, according to the project page.
The project is funded through Washington County's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP), which draws on countywide property tax revenue, including from Beaverton residents.
Planned improvements between 178th and 202nd avenues include:
- Sidewalks with ADA-compliant curb ramps on both sides of the street
- Street markings for shared pedestrian and vehicle lanes
- A bike-and-pedestrian crossing signal at 185th Avenue
- Alternating parallel parking and landscaping on both sides
- Upgraded stormwater drainage and surface water treatment
The county also plans to fill sidewalk gaps between 192nd and 202nd avenues, creating a continuous connection west to 209th Avenue. The County Engineer directed staff to add that segment during the summer of 2025, and information was mailed to affected property owners in October of that year, according to the project page.
Design work began in 2022. The county's press release says design is expected to continue through summer 2027, while the project page lists a fall 2027 finish. Construction is expected to start in spring 2028. The press release lists a summer 2029 completion target; the project page lists spring 2029.
The Nov. 3 open house follows an April 2025 open house and a December 2023 online design update. Construction is set to begin in spring 2028.
