Portland Floorball Club hosts game nights every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at PDX Fieldhouse, 11040 SW Allen Blvd. in Beaverton, according to the Beaverton Resource Guide.

The nonprofit welcomes men and women ages 16 to 60-plus, including complete beginners. The first visit is free, and equipment is provided.

Floorball is a non-contact form of indoor hockey played on foot with lightweight sticks and a perforated plastic ball. Five field players and a goalkeeper line up on each side.

There's no body checking. Players win the ball with positioning and stick skills.

"You need nothing but your good shoes, and whether you have experience or not, you can play on day one," founder David Slater told KATU in September.

The club launched in May 2025 as Oregon's first dedicated floorball club, according to its website.

As of September, it had grown to more than 50 members, KATU reported.

No team needed

Players don't need a group of friends to sign up. The club mixes teams each night so participants get to know one another, according to the club website.

Player Max Sigander told KATU that newcomers show up regularly. He said players can sign up for individual evenings, so missing a week isn't a problem.

Tyler Harrington, an ice hockey player, told KATU he joined during the offseason to continue playing a stick sport and to stay active. He called floorball more accessible than ice hockey.

Slater told KATU that many players treat the game as their cardio because they're having too much fun to notice the workout.

"Almost everybody that comes and tries it once, stays," Slater told KATU.

How to play

There is no membership fee. The club uses a "pay when you play" model: the first night is free, and each game night after that costs $20.

A USA Floorball membership is required after the first visit, with free 45-day introductory memberships available, according to the club website.

Space is limited, and the club does not accommodate unannounced drop-ins. Players must register through portlandfloorball.org.

The club provides loaner sticks, practice jerseys and goalie gear. Players bring athletic shoes, workout clothes and a water bottle.
