Rachel Philip enters Tuesday's Beaverton City Council Position 1 runoff with backing from Mayor Lacey Beaty and all four sitting councilors.
Philip's campaign website lists endorsements from Beaty, Council President John Dugger and Councilors Ashley Hartmeier-Prigg, Kevin Teater and Allison Tivnon. The endorsement page also names more than a dozen organizations, including the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce, Washington County Democrats, the Tualatin Valley Fire Fighter Union (IAFF 1660) and the Northwest Oregon Labor Council AFL-CIO.
Philip faces Evelyn Kocher in the runoff for Position 1. Neither candidate won more than half the votes in the May election, triggering the November contest, according to the Beaverton Valley Times. The seat is elected at-large, meaning every Beaverton voter will see the race on their ballot.
As we reported Nov. 2, the council seat is one of three runoffs facing Beaverton-area voters on the Nov. 3 ballot.
Philip has lived in Beaverton since 2018, according to a candidate interview published by the Washington County Democrats. In that same interview, she listed affordable housing as her top priority, saying she has "four basic priorities" that motivated her to run and that making Beaverton "a more vibrant community" starts with affordable housing.
Other organizations endorsing Philip, according to her campaign site, include the Independent Party of Oregon, Run For Something, the 314 Action Fund, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 555, IBEW Local 48, North Coast States Carpenters Union, Oregon Futures Lab & Color PAC, the Home Building Association of Greater Portland, Portland Metropolitan Association of Realtors and UA 290.
Ballots are due by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.
