14-year-old Jacob Tran died after a car struck him while he rode an electric scooter through a marked crosswalk on Southwest Scholls Ferry Road near SW Loon Drive in south Beaverton on Thursday, June 25.
Tran was on his way to a summer football workout at Mountainside High School, where he would have been a freshman this fall, according to Beaverton Police statements reported by OregonLive and KATU.
The crash happened at approximately 6:21 a.m. Tran was wearing a helmet. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries.
The driver, a 16-year-old boy, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to the Beaverton Police Department. No charges have been filed. The cause of the crash has not been determined.
Southwest Scholls Ferry Road was closed for several hours while members of the department's Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team processed the scene.
The investigation remains active. No timeline for its completion has been announced.
