The Aloha Community Library is racing to fill backpacks for more than 250 local students before the school year starts, and the collection deadline is Wednesday, August 5.

Organizers expect even higher demand than last year, but donations have been arriving at a slower pace, the library said in a July 7 Instagram post.

Residents can drop off supplies at three locations: the Aloha Community Library during open hours, at the Aloha Community Farmers Market on Thursdays, or at 185th Produce.

A $50 monetary donation covers supplies for one student on average, according to the library. The drive supports programs including the Believe You Matter project at Aloha-Huber Park K-8 School.

The giveaway itself is Sunday, August 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library. No proof of income or residency is required. Event information is available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese, reflecting the multilingual families the library serves. A full list of needed items is on the library's supply drive page.

Neighborhood Microbakery Tour: Saturday, August 1, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Home bakers and makers across Aloha and Beaverton open their doors for a self-guided tour. Visitors collect passport codes at each stop to enter a grand prize raffle. A map and details are at marketlessfarmer.com.

Aloha Junior Baseball Car Show: Saturday, August 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The annual car show takes over the Peppermill Restaurant parking lot at 17455 SW Farmington Rd. Car registration is $25, and 100% of proceeds support youth baseball. The event includes a raffle, dunk tank, and live music.

Comedy for the Kids with Angel Ocasio: Saturday, August 22, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Aloha Community Library celebrates Washington County Cooperative Library Services' 50th birthday with treats at 3 p.m. and a performance by comedian Angel Ocasio at 3:30 p.m. Ocasio combines physical comedy, magic, juggling, and music in both English and Spanish. Seating is limited and first-come, first-served.
