The Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Oct. 7 workshop to help local business owners delegate tasks to AI tools without compromising data.

The lunchtime session, titled "Delegating Work to AI," will be held at the Chamber's offices at 12600 SW Crescent St., Suite 160.

According to a Patch listing, the workshop will cover how to brief AI like a new hire, how to set data-security boundaries and how to use AI to support different roles across a company.

The session frames AI delegation as a management challenge, not a technical one, according to a Business Daily Network description of the event.

The timing is notable. The workshop comes weeks after Beaverton business owners publicly objected to a downtown group's use of AI-generated images, prompting Mayor Lacey Beaty to review how the city's AI policy applies to contractors and groups receiving municipal funds, the Beaverton Valley Times reported Sept. 12.

"Our concern is simple: Generative AI has no place for an organization touting its support of local artists," Syndicate Wine Bar co-owner David Anderson wrote in an email quoted in that report.

Beaverton adopted its AI policy in October 2024. Beaty planned to raise the issue of extending those rules to city contractors at the Sept. 15 City Council meeting.

The Chamber's Oct. 7 session is the first in a planned series. A follow-up called "Build First AI" is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the same location.

That session will focus on building repeatable AI systems using platforms such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot.
