The Beaverton School District (BSD) named first-grade teacher Julie Eggers its September BSD Achiever, honoring a career that has stretched four decades at Jacob Wismer Elementary School.

The district announced the recognition Tuesday, Sept. 15. Eggers has taught hundreds of first graders and mentored dozens of student teachers during her 40 years in Beaverton schools, according to the announcement.

Many of those student teachers went on to build careers inside the district. That pipeline of mentorship is central to why nominators put Eggers' name forward.

One nominator's path tells the story. That person first walked into Eggers' classroom as a first grader, returned years later as a student teacher under her guidance and now works alongside her as a colleague and friend. In the nomination, the former student said Eggers puts students first, gives her time selflessly and celebrates everyone around her.

"When you hear and watch her teach, it is nothing short of amazing," a separate nominator wrote. "It leaves you with a feeling of awe."

Eggers teaches at Jacob Wismer Elementary in the Bethany area of northwest Beaverton.

The school serves roughly 600 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Nominators described Eggers' approach as focused on helping students grow in confidence, independence and social-emotional skills alongside academics.

Former student teachers who trained under her called her "welcoming, creative, patient, inclusive and calm no matter what the day throws at her," according to the district.

Another nominator wrote that Eggers "passes down those qualities to her students and everyone she works with."

The BSD Achievers program invites the public to nominate staff members through the district's website. Eggers is among the first honorees of the 2026–27 school year.
