Residents eager to see the new Beaverton High School can attend games and performances during the 2026–27 school year without waiting for a formal tour.

The Beaverton School District (BSD) announced that volleyball games, basketball games, band concerts, choir performances and theater productions at BHS are all open to the public. Full campus tours, the district said in a public notice, won't happen until summer 2027.

The delay comes down to construction.

Phase 2 of the rebuild still requires demolishing the old BHS building, adding a new parking lot and bus drop-off area, and converting the baseball and softball fields to turf. The district said it wants visitors to experience the finished campus once both phases are complete and needs the new parking lot to handle the expected crowds.

The 300,000-square-foot school opened Aug. 26, coming in on time and under its $253 million budget, Principal Andrew Kearl told The Oregonian. The project is the most expensive funded by a $723 million bond Beaverton voters approved in May 2022.

About 1,400 students now attend classes in a building that stretches an entire block along Southwest Farmington Road, according to the Beaverton Valley Times. The new BHS features a more-than-400-seat auditorium with 55-foot ceilings, a black box theater, a gym with LED scoreboards and an indoor track. Hallways are color-coded by subject area: blue for math, yellow for language arts, green for science.

Touches of the old school survived the rebuild. The front office walls are covered with repurposed flooring from the former Merle Davies Elementary School, and the student center holds a wooden beaver sculpture donated by the Class of 1965.

"Sometimes when you open a new facility, it can look a little sterile … This one does not feel that way - it's vibrant; it feels like the old Beaverton," Kearl told OPB on Aug. 26, the first day of school in the new building.

Parking around the campus remains limited while the old building stands. Kearl encouraged students to carpool, especially for games, KGW reported Aug. 19.

Game and performance schedules will be posted on the BHS website and the school's social media pages. The district expects Phase 2 to wrap up by summer 2027, when full campus tours will begin.
