A 24-year-old Beaverton man will spend nearly three years in federal prison after a months-long investigation yielded approximately 768 grams of fentanyl.
Eder Fletes Calix was sentenced Thursday, Oct. 22, to two years and nine months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney's Office for Oregon announced. He pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl.
The case started in March 2025 when an Oregon State Trooper pulled over a vehicle Fletes Calix was driving. The trooper noticed the license plate came back with no valid registration. Neither Fletes Calix nor a co-defendant could produce a driver's license or vehicle documents, according to court records reviewed by KOIN 6 News.
The trooper spotted a large roll of cash in the vehicle's cup holder. Both men fled on foot while the trooper was speaking with a back-seat passenger, KOIN reported. A search warrant executed on the vehicle that same day turned up 413 grams of compressed fentanyl on the rear passenger floorboard, along with about 107 grams of marijuana and two digital scales.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) took over the investigation. Over the following months, agents observed multiple drug transactions involving Fletes Calix and his co-defendant, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. During two separate stops in May and June 2025, agents seized fentanyl from buyers. One buyer told agents she had purchased half an ounce of fentanyl for $500 and had bought from the pair several times before, KOIN reported.
Federal agents arrested Fletes Calix on July 2, 2025, and searched his residence, a small studio apartment attached to a house in Beaverton. Inside the apartment and vehicle, agents found additional fentanyl, $22,000 in cash inside a backpack, drug packaging materials and digital scales, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
In total, investigators seized approximately 767.9 grams of fentanyl powder from the vehicle, residence and related transactions over the course of the case, the U.S. Attorney's Office stated.
Fletes Calix told agents he knew the substance was fentanyl and that he and his co-defendant were selling it. The court considered the volume of fentanyl and Fletes Calix's lack of prior criminal history in determining the sentence.
The DEA and Oregon State Police investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica Keefer and Kate Rochat prosecuted it. The unnamed co-defendant is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 6, 2027, according to KOIN.
