Seven dance acts spanning Vietnamese lion dance, Ethiopian Eskista, Aztec ceremonial dance, Samoan Mauluulu, Indian Bharatanatyam, African contemporary, and tap will perform at a City of Beaverton showcase tied to the SW Millikan Way Extension Project.
The SW Millikan Way Extension Project is rebuilding the street between SW Watson Avenue and SW Lombard Avenue to create a pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly corridor connecting to the Beaverton Transit Center and supporting redevelopment in downtown Beaverton.
White Lotus Foundation brings its traditional lion dance, performed by Raymond Chung (tail) and Brayden Truong (head), with Jackie Nguyen on lead drum, Adam Huynh on cymbals, and Sydney Lau on gong. Program lead Nhan Danh coordinates the group. White Lotus describes itself as Oregon's largest lion dance team and offers free dragon and lion dance lessons for youth.
Krubel Amare, known in the breakdance world as Bboy Buckshot, performs a traditional Ethiopian Eskista piece titled "The Habesha Heartbeat." Amare is an Ethiopian American dancer, choreographer, and founder of Portland-based Rainier Breakers. He is also scheduled to perform at Ten Tiny Dances on Saturday, July 11, at The Round Amphitheater in Beaverton.
Danza Azteca Huitzilopochtli performs "Tezcatlipoca (The Smoking Mirror)," a traditional Aztec dance. Performers Tonalli, Quetzalli, Ameyalli, and Ollin dance while Jose and Kelly Carlos play drums. Quetzalli Carlos choreographed the piece.
Augafa'apae & Alo O Ali'i Dance Group performs a Samoan Mauluulu dance with Sina Mata, Hope Mata, Isaiah Isaia, and Afele Mata.
Subashini Ganesan-Forbes performs contemporary Bharatanatyam, collaboratively choreographed with Meshi Chavez. Ganesan-Forbes is affiliated with New Expressive Works in Portland.
Face King performs "Dance for Peace," a contemporary African traditional dance piece.
Congruency Dance Collective closes the lineup with tap, performed by Cas Majewski and Faith Ford, with choreography by Majewski.
