Thea Strøm, a psychic medium and animal communicator, runs 15 to 20 sessions a week from her Beaverton office, reading energy for humans, pets and the deceased.
Strøm schedules three or four hour-long appointments a day between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., meeting clients over Zoom, in their homes or at her office. Her client list includes cats, dogs, horses, chickens and wildlife rescues.
OPB profiled Strøm on Saturday, Sept. 19, in its "At Work With" series, following her through a session with a one-eyed dog named Nala and Nala's owner, Caitlin, in Portland on Aug. 7. During the reading, Strøm said she relayed Nala's preferences, physical discomfort and concerns about changes at home. She also told Caitlin she felt a connection to Caitlin's deceased mother.
Originally from Norway, Strøm has practiced professionally since 2013 under her business, Thea Intuitive LLC, according to her website. She lives in Oregon with her husband, two children, a cat named Humphrey and a dog named Misty.
Strøm draws a line between two sides of her work. Psychic readings involve connecting to a living person's energy. Mediumship involves connecting to people or animals that have died.
She told OPB she warns clients at the start of every session that she cannot promise specific messages or connections, and that she will issue a refund if she cannot connect to a client's energy.
Beyond one-on-one sessions, Strøm teaches classes on psychic work and animal communication. She offers in-person classes, online self-paced courses, live online sessions and mentoring, according to her website. A sliding scale is available for students who cannot afford the full price. Her readings run $195 for 30 minutes and $250 for 60 minutes. All sessions include an optional digital audio recording.
Strøm also collaborates with local humane societies and other mediums to host low-cost community events and charity fundraisers.
She published a book in July 2023, "Animal Intuition: Communicating with Pets, Animal Spirits, and the Energies of the Natural World," which she narrates in audiobook form.
On the question of fraud in her field, Strøm was direct. She told OPB that prospective clients should watch for psychics who ask for a lot of personal information beforehand, focus only on negatives or claim someone has cast a spell and offer to reverse it for an extra fee.
"I would definitely run in the opposite direction if the psychic starts to talk about curses," she told OPB.
