Gigi Stoll grew up swinging clubs at Beaverton High School. Now 29, she's competing on the LPGA Tour and rapping about why the sport belongs to everyone.
Stoll is in the field at The Standard Portland Classic, the LPGA's longest-running non-major, being played Aug. 13–16 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland. The tournament features 144 players competing for a $2 million purse.
But it's what Stoll does off the course that sets her apart. Under the moniker Golf God, she released "Common Ground," a melodic pop-rap track that invites listeners to the country club regardless of background.
In the song's lyrics, she sings: "Doesn't matter where you're from, we all have the same link. 'Cause the green is more common than you think."
That message carries particular weight in Beaverton, one of Oregon's most diverse cities, home to large Latino, Asian, Korean, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Samoan and Marshallese communities. Stoll isn't the only local pushing to open golf's doors. Kat Gerrish, another Beaverton High School golfer, runs Cottage Golf at 12395 SW Broadway St. #150 in Old Town, a studio built on the idea that the sport should be available to everyone.
From Beaverton High to the big tour
Stoll's path to the LPGA started early. She was a two-time Oregon Golf Association Women's State Champion in 2014 and 2015, a seven-time OGA Junior Player of the Year and the 2015 Beaverton High School Athlete of the Year. At 15, she qualified for the U.S. Women's Open.
She played collegiate golf at the University of Arizona, helping lead the Wildcats to the 2018 NCAA national championship. After college, she spent four years on the Epson Tour, earning her first professional win at the 2023 Casino Del Sol Classic. She first appeared on the LPGA Tour in 2024 and secured full status in 2025.
Her father, Mike Stoll, still watches from the gallery. He was counting her strokes during Friday's first round at Columbia Edgewater, and he told OregonLive the long road to the LPGA tested his daughter's resolve. The sport, he said, can beat you down when results don't come.
Stoll picked up rap in college to lighten the pressure of NCAA competition. Now engaged to her fiancée, Steph, she balances tour life with music and mental-health work, including breathing exercises and sessions with a mental coach.
