Free live music, inflatables, and yard games return to Veterans Memorial Park when the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District hosts its annual July 4th celebration.

The event takes place at the park at SW Washington Avenue and SW Watson Avenue in Central Beaverton. This year's celebration runs a half-hour longer than last year's.

THPRD is partnering with the City of Beaverton, Bethel Church, and American Legion Beaverton Post 124. Post 124 oversees more than a dozen memorials in the park, including a Blue Star Memorial, a torpedo, and a plane propeller. The post dedicated a new Revolutionary War Memorial at the park on Sunday, April 19, marking the site's final planned monument in the America 250 anniversary year.

Post 124 Commander Juliet Britton said at the April dedication: "The ideals were bold, but not fully realized. We must have the courage to admit where we can do better."

Activities include face painting, inflatables, yard games, and a live concert. The specific band has not yet been announced.

Volunteers are still needed. Roles include greeting attendees and helping with face painting, crafts, and games. Sign up at thprd.volunteerportal.org.

What to bring: Blankets or low beach chairs (regular-height lawn chairs allowed only at the sides and rear), sunscreen, a reusable water bottle. No alcohol is permitted. Leashed dogs are welcome.
