Sewell Sweets, the Salem bakery behind the Mousse Crunch pastry, plans to open a second location in Beaverton in early 2027.

The shop will move into the ground floor of the Modera Beaverton apartment building on Southwest Broadway, The Oregonian reported.

The move is a homecoming of sorts. Owners Cat and Chad Sewell ran the business as a licensed home kitchen in Beaverton for nine years before opening their Salem storefront at 155 Liberty St. NE in 2022, according to Hoodline.

The Mousse Crunch is a take on the French trompe-l'œil style, shaped to look like a mango or apple.

Each pastry has a hardened shell that cracks audibly when bitten, revealing a soft, sweet interior.

Customers post videos of themselves biting into them on social media, fueling the shop's following. The bakery won "Best Cake" from Oregon Bride magazine in 2023 and supplies wholesale orders for Enchanted Forest amusement park and the Marion Berries summer collegiate baseball team.

"We love our OG storefront here but it is very tiny," Cat Sewell told The Oregonian. "Our Beaverton storefront is going to be so big, and is going to have tons of seating space."

Modera Beaverton is a 312-unit mixed-use complex developed by Mill Creek Residential Trust. It opened in March 2025 with 4,145 square feet of ground-floor retail space. No specific square footage for the Sewell Sweets unit has been disclosed.

Pacific Office Automation expands to Houston

Beaverton-headquartered Pacific Office Automation completed its acquisition of On Demand Inc., a Houston-based office technology dealer, on Aug. 31, The Cannata Report reported.

The deal is POA's third acquisition of 2026. The company bought Western Business Products in April, extending its reach along the Interstate 5 corridor between Medford and Sacramento. It also acquired MKCnext, a Southern California wide-format printing firm.

POA was founded in 1976 and employs more than 1,500 people across 12 states. The Cannata Report describes the company as the largest office equipment reseller and managed services provider in the country.

On Demand Inc. has served the Houston market for more than 25 years as a dealer for Xerox, Kyocera, Ricoh and FP Mailing Solutions. Owner Mike Gray said in a statement that POA "stood out as an independent company that puts customers and employees first."

POA CEO Adam Pritchett said the acquisition strengthens the company's ability to serve customers in what he called one of the country's most dynamic business markets. The deal adds a showroom in Houston's Galleria area and expands POA's Texas presence.
