Two Beaverton School District high schools earned the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in Oregon in U.S. News & World Report's 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings, released Wednesday, Aug. 19.

International School of Beaverton claimed the state's top spot and ranked No. 77 nationally, according to U.S. News, out of nearly 18,000 public high schools evaluated. Beaverton Academy of Science and Engineering landed at No. 2 in Oregon, making BSD the only district in the state with the top two schools.

Two additional district schools cracked the top 20: Mountainside High School at No. 11 and Arts and Communication Magnet Academy at No. 14, according to the U.S. News Oregon rankings. Lake Oswego Senior High rounded out the statewide top three at No. 3.

What sets these schools apart

ISB, located at 17770 SW Blanton St., runs the International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma programs. Every student studies Mandarin, Japanese or Spanish and completes required community service hours.

BASE posts a 77% AP participation rate among its 102 seniors. Notably, 58% of BASE students are economically disadvantaged, a detail that carries weight because the U.S. News methodology scores underserved student performance as 10% of the overall ranking.

How the rankings work

U.S. News, working with RTI International, scored schools on six indicators: college readiness (30%), state assessment proficiency (20%), state assessment performance (20%), college curriculum breadth (10%), underserved student performance (10%) and graduation rate (10%). College readiness measures the share of seniors who earned a qualifying score on AP or IB exams.

What's next

BSD is Oregon's second-largest school district, overseeing more than 50 schools under new superintendent Tony Smith. Nationally, Central Magnet School in Tennessee took the No. 1 spot, followed by Signature School in Indiana and Julia R. Masterman Secondary School in Pennsylvania.

The district's school year begins Tuesday, Aug. 25.
