Vietnam's largest coffee chain now occupies the spot where a Starbucks used to stand at Beaverton Town Square.

Trung Nguyên Legend opened in June at 11405 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Highway, bringing traditional Vietnamese coffee culture to a city with deep roots in the Vietnamese diaspora.

Vietnam is the second most common country of birth for Oregon's foreign-born residents, with nearly 21,000 Vietnamese-born Oregonians statewide, according to 2024 U.S. Census data.

Beaverton alone is home to approximately 10,800 Asian residents, about 11% of the city's population.

The café is one of two Trung Nguyên Legend locations in the Portland metro area. Franchise owner Brad Tran opened the first at 8435 SE Powell Blvd. in Portland in August 2025.

In an interview with Eater Portland at that opening, Tran said, "Vietnamese coffee's been getting a lot of traffic in Western culture. Especially this brand. The bean is number one rated in Vietnam."

The Beaverton location is classified within the company's system as a "Legend Coffee World," which the chain positions as its premium tier. The more common, lower-tier locations are called E-Coffee.

The ritual is the point

What sets Trung Nguyên Legend apart from a grab-and-go coffee shop is the hands-on experience. The signature Legend Ice Milk Coffee arrives at your table in three separate vessels: a metal phin filter holding coffee grounds and hot water, dripping slowly into a small glass below; a carafe of sweetened condensed milk; and a drinking glass filled with ice.

You assemble it yourself. Condensed milk goes in first, then the brewed coffee over ice.

Some drinks are dine-in only because of this multi-component presentation.

The menu also includes the Thien Coffee, the chain's most popular signature drink served in a small black pot, along with Ottoman and Roman ice milk coffee sets, teas, smoothies, and pastries.

A growing footprint

Trung Nguyên Legend has additional U.S. locations in California and Texas. The company's stated goal is 100 U.S. locations, per a 2025 press release.

The Beaverton café is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
