Beaverton City Library will host a free Día de los Muertos celebration in its meeting rooms. The event is part of Day of the Dead programming across Washington County's public libraries in October and November.

The Beaverton event, listed on the library's calendar, runs from 1 to 4 p.m. in Meeting Rooms A and B at the main branch, 12375 S.W. Fifth St. The specific date had not been posted as of Sept. 30.

Día de los Muertos, observed Nov. 1 and 2, is a Mexican tradition honoring loved ones who have died. Programming across the Portland area begins weeks before the holiday.

Beyond the libraries, several nearby venues are also marking the holiday. In Hillsboro, the Walters Cultural Arts Center hosts a free program featuring author Valentina Ortiz and the group Huehca Omeyocan on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 527 E. Main St. M&M Marketplace in Hillsboro holds a free celebration from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 346 S.W. Walnut St., with music, ofrendas, a Catrina contest and face painting.
