The Beaverton School District is offering families a free evening with mental health and substance abuse prevention experts on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Aloha-Huber Park K-8.

The event, called "Building Healthier, Stronger Communities Together," runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the school, located at 5000 SW 173rd Ave. A panel of experts will discuss how families can strengthen mental health, prevent substance abuse and connect with local resources, according to the district's website.

The event is free.

The district is providing dinner, child care and bilingual programming in English and Spanish. All BSD families are welcome to attend.

The bilingual programming aligns with the district's Multilingual Department, which serves a student body of nearly 37,500 across 34 elementary schools, nine middle schools, six high schools, five option schools and two charter schools. Aloha-Huber Park K-8, the event's host site, serves about 901 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

BSD's Public Safety Office has also partnered with KPTV FOX 12, the Beaverton Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff's Office on a video series addressing drugs and alcohol in schools and student mental health support.

The district's announcement does not list a registration requirement or name specific panelists.
