Beaverton High placed three linebackers on OregonLive's statewide list of the best 6A players at the position, published Thursday, Oct. 1.

Juniors Will Kolberg and Lincoln Lutu and senior Elan Mealus all made the cut. OregonLive compiled the list from coaching surveys covering all 41 teams in 6A. The linebacker installment is the seventh in the publication's position-by-position series this fall.

Lutu posted the biggest numbers of the three. The 6-foot, 210-pound inside linebacker recorded 65 tackles, 10 for loss, two sacks and three fumble recoveries as a sophomore in 2025. That production earned him third-team all-Metro League honors, confirmed by the Beaverton High athletics department.

Beavers head coach James Testa said Lutu is getting better every rep and praised his versatility on the inside.

"He has incredible potential at the inside linebacker position," Testa said. "We're super excited for him to become more of a leader and bring his team along with him."

Mealus, a senior, brings experience and three college offers. He started as a sophomore before an injury in the fourth game sidelined him. He worked his way back and tallied 24 tackles last season. Lewis & Clark, Pacific and Willamette have all offered him.

Kolberg rounds out the Beaverton trio at outside linebacker. Testa described him as a long, athletic hybrid who can defend the pass and play physical at the point of attack. Kolberg is a junior entering his first significant varsity role.

Testa was named Metro League Coach of the Year for the 2025-26 season, according to the Beaverton High athletics page.

The Beavers are not the only local program represented. Southridge seniors Ryan Cosgrove and Joseph Finnigan and Sunset senior Justin Duchek, a two-way starter at left tackle and linebacker, also appeared on the list.

Beaverton enters Metro League play at 0-4 overall. The Beavers open league competition Friday, Oct. 2, at Sunset at 7 p.m. The remaining schedule includes trips to Westview on Oct. 9 and Mountainside on Oct. 30, plus home games against Jesuit on Oct. 16 and Southridge on Oct. 23.
