A teenager crashed a Toyota Sequoia into occupied townhomes near SW Johnson Street early Friday, Oct. 2, after fleeing Beaverton Police in a chase that began on SW Tualatin Valley Highway.

No one inside the townhomes was injured, the Beaverton Police Department said in a news release. The homes sustained significant damage.

The incident started around 2 a.m. when a patrol officer spotted the SUV driving recklessly along SW Tualatin Valley Highway. The officer watched the driver make an illegal U-turn, strike a concrete median and lose control. The driver kept going.

Officers tried to pull the vehicle over near SW Tualatin Valley Highway and SW 178th Avenue. The driver refused to stop and fled north on SW 178th Avenue, running a stop sign.

The driver then lost control and crashed the SUV into the townhomes.

Two juveniles jumped out and ran. Beaverton Police deployed K9 Ox to track them. Neighbors who saw the teens running through the area provided tips to officers, the department said.

K9 Ox and officers found one of the teens, who surrendered without further incident. The second teen went home on their own and was later taken to a hospital for evaluation of injuries from the crash. The severity of those injuries has not been disclosed.

Officers learned the Sequoia belonged to a parent of one of the teenagers and had been taken without permission.

The teen believed to have been driving was lodged at juvenile detention on six charges: felony attempt to elude, misdemeanor attempt to elude, reckless driving, reckless endangering, failure to perform the duties of a driver (property damage) and first-degree criminal mischief. Charges against the second teen have not been confirmed.

The department said it will not release the juveniles' names or identifying information because they are minors.
