Free leaf drop-off returns to Beaverton starting Saturday, Oct. 24, when Clean Water Services opens two sites for its 34th annual collection program.
The agency will accept leaves, pine needles and grass clippings at two Beaverton locations on five Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to Clean Water Services:
- CWS Field Operations building, 2025 SW Merlo Court
- CWS Central administration building, 15195 NW Greenbrier Pkwy
The 2026 dates are Oct. 24, Oct. 31, Nov. 7, Nov. 21 and Dec. 5.
Debris must arrive loose or in paper bags weighing no more than 50 pounds each. Plastic bags are not accepted. The program is open to residents only, not commercial operations.
Clean Water Services collects about 3,000 cubic yards of leaves each year, roughly 300 dump truck loads. The material goes to West Union Gardens, where it is turned into mulch.
Clean Water Services says the program helps reduce localized flooding caused by leaf-clogged storm drains and keeps decaying yard debris out of local creeks, wetlands and the Tualatin River. It is funded through the agency's $10.55-per-month surface water management fee.
Food donations also accepted
Both drop-off sites will also collect monetary and food donations for local food banks during each Saturday event.
City of Beaverton program
Separately, the city of Beaverton announced leaf disposal events starting Sunday, Nov. 1, running every Saturday and Sunday. The city's announcement says the events help keep storm drains clear and include a food donation component.
The city's leaf disposal page did not list specific drop-off locations or hours as of Oct. 5.
Residents can mark Oct. 24 for the first CWS drop-off or check the city's page for its November schedule.
